Motherland

The term ‘motherland’ refers to one’s native country, but Gaia (the being who inhabits the earth), acknowledges no borders, boundaries, or dividing lines upon her land. The entire planet is, in fact, the motherland. We are one world and one people, if we could only remember.

Motherland
by Carolyn Glackin
Oh the Mother
How she cries
How she shrieks, and wails, and moans
In an endless lamentation
That I feel deep within my bones
Sometimes she is angry
Like when people strip her bare
And she yells in thunderous rage
While I remind her life’s not fair
Quite often, she is somber
Like when she tells me of our birth
As I hear the death knell ringing
From all corners of the earth
She said our souls are cosmic
And we come here from afar
But she, Gaia, is our mother
Even though we hail from stars
She tells me of our bodies
How she fashions them with love
From her soil, we arise
Upon our death, we rise above
Then one day she told me
That she gifted us with color
Never knowing it would cause us
To turn from one another
She thought we’d see the beauty
Of all the different hues
And it absolutely kills her
That we pick sides, wage wars, abuse
Sometimes her heart’s so heavy
That I swear I hear it beating
As she mourns lives lost to bloodshed
And history repeating
There are those precious moments
When she’ll smile and laugh and sing
Like when the sun is shining
And when truth and freedom ring
I ask about her scars
Seen all throughout the land
She says she loves them dearly
In ways I wouldn’t understand
I ask her if she hates us
If she wishes we would leave her
But she says we are her heart
Though we forsake her and deceive her
The Earth can do without us
She’d thrive and flourish sweetly
It’s we humans that need her
So fully and completely
So doesn’t that say something?
Is not the message clear?
We abuse her and defile her
And yet, she keeps us safely here
I know of no love greater
No love more pure and true
Than a love that’s given freely
Yet asks not a thing of you.

Revealed

No need to become

When you can just simply be

And there’s nothing to seek

When instead, you can see

There’s nothing to learn

And yet plenty to know

There’s a journey before you

And yet nowhere to go

You don’t need to be more

In fact, less is ideal

So remove all your masks

Let your soul be revealed

You’ve nothing to gain

And nothing to win

For the treasure you seek

Awaits you within

You see, when we arrive here

We have all that we need

But soon, we’re blindsided

By hatred and greed

Some hunger for power

Some clamor for fame

And our truth is obscured

By sorrow and shame

Yet the answer’s not found

In external places

And this is a fact

That our world now faces

Salvation lies waiting

But not in a church

Nor will you find it

Through endless research

Leave all that aside now

For it’s time to begin

Come home to your truth

By going within.
